Monster Island, the Asylum's 2019 mockbuster, was released around the same time as Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The film centers on an island with the same title as the island itself where a monstrous lives.


The film's budget is about the same as a large child's meal, so the filmmakers chose to focus on a few people and shoot the main moments with the A-list cast during lunch. The Asylum is not a kaiju film.
